YouTube Timestamp Link Generator

Turn a time into a YouTube link that starts playing there, and build the chapter list a description needs for chapters to appear on the player.

How to use

  1. Paste the YouTube URL.
  2. Enter the time you want it to start.
  3. Copy the timestamped link or the chapter list.

Frequently asked questions

How does the start time get into a URL?

As a t parameter in seconds, so t=90 begins at a minute and a half. The 1m30s form works too and is easier to read.

Why are my chapters not showing on the video?

YouTube needs at least three timestamps, the first at 00:00, and each chapter at least ten seconds long. Miss any of those and it silently shows none.

What format do chapters go in?

One per line in the description, timestamp first then the title, in ascending order. The 00:00 line is mandatory as the first entry.

Does a timestamped link work in a comment?

Yes, and YouTube renders a bare timestamp in a comment as a link automatically. The full URL form is what you need when sharing off-platform.
