GIF to Frames — Split GIF into Images

GIF to Frames. Free, runs in your browser — no upload to servers.

Upload a file to get started. Processing runs entirely in your browser.

How to use

  1. Drop the GIF you want broken into stills.
  2. Review the extracted frames as thumbnails.
  3. Save them all as numbered PNG files.

Frequently asked questions

What format are the frames?

PNG, numbered in playback order. PNG is lossless, so each frame comes out exactly as the GIF stored it with no second round of compression.

Are the frame delays preserved anywhere?

The delays are timing metadata inside the GIF and do not survive as separate images. Note them before splitting if you plan to rebuild the animation.

Can I get just one frame?

The extraction gives you all of them, then you keep the one you want. For a single still from a video rather than a GIF, use the video screenshot tool.

How many frames can it handle?

Long animations work, but every frame is decoded and held in the page, so a several hundred frame GIF will use a lot of memory on a phone.
