Convert APNG to GIF Online

APNG keeps full color and alpha, but plenty of apps only read GIF. Decode the animated PNG and download a 480 pixel wide GIF at 10 fps.

Frequently asked questions

What happens to APNG transparency?

GIF only supports one fully transparent index, so semi-transparent pixels have to be resolved. Soft edges that faded out in the APNG come back with a visible fringe.

Why is the output 480 pixels wide?

It is the width that keeps a GIF small enough to post while staying readable. The source aspect ratio is preserved, so height follows from your original.

Do I lose frames in the conversion?

The frame sequence is kept, but timing is resampled to 10 fps. An APNG authored at 30 fps will play back with roughly one frame in three.

Can I convert the other direction?

Yes, the GIF to APNG tool does that and is the better direction to travel: you gain color depth and alpha rather than giving them up.
