Frequently asked questions

How do I find the timestamps?

Play the file in any player and note the position in seconds. The tool takes plain numbers, so 90 for a minute and a half, not a formatted timestamp.

Is the cut sample accurate?

It is accurate to the frame boundary of the source codec. For MP3 that can shift the edit by a few milliseconds, which is inaudible in speech.

Can I keep several sections?

One range per run. For multiple excerpts, cut each in turn and then join the results with the audio merge tool.

Does it re-encode the whole file?

Only the section you keep is written out, so a 20 second clip from an hour-long recording processes in seconds rather than minutes.
