YAML Validator Online

Check YAML parses, and catch the indentation and tab errors that make a config file fail at deploy time rather than at the moment you saved it.

Output

How to use

  1. Paste the YAML you want checked.
  2. Read the parse result or the error position.
  3. Fix the indentation and re-check.

Frequently asked questions

Why are tabs a problem in YAML?

The spec forbids them for indentation. An editor that inserts a tab produces a file that looks correctly aligned and fails to parse, which is the classic YAML afternoon.

Why did my value become true?

YAML 1.1 reads yes, no, on and off as booleans. A country code of NO and a version number of 1.10 are both famous casualties. Quote anything ambiguous.

What is the difference between a list and a map here?

A dash starts a list item; a key with a colon starts a map entry. Mixing them at the same indentation level is the other common parse failure.

Does valid YAML mean my config is correct?

Only that it parses. Whether the keys are the ones your tool expects is a schema question this does not answer.
