Frequently asked questions
What does the viewBox actually do?
It defines the coordinate system the shapes are drawn in. Width and height set the display size; the viewBox decides how the drawing maps into it.
Why is my SVG blank?
Most often a viewBox that does not contain the shapes, or a fill of none with no stroke. Both render as an empty box at the right dimensions.
Can I edit paths by hand?
You can, and it is worth learning the letters: M moves, L lines, C curves, Z closes. Lowercase versions are relative to the previous point.
How do I make it smaller?
Reduce path precision, drop editor metadata, and remove unused defs. Illustrator and Figma exports routinely carry several times the bytes they need.
