PEM Decoder — Parse PEM Blocks
Decode a PEM block and read what is inside it: certificate subject and dates, key parameters, or the fields of a signing request.
How to use
- Paste the PEM block, BEGIN and END lines included.
- The decoded fields are listed.
- Read the subject, dates or key parameters.
Frequently asked questions
What can be inside a PEM block?
Certificates, public and private keys, and certificate signing requests. The BEGIN line names which one, and the body is base64-encoded DER.
Is it safe to paste a private key here?
The decoding happens in the page and nothing is transmitted. Even so, treat any private key you paste into any browser tab as worth rotating afterwards.
Why is the base64 not human readable?
Because it wraps DER, a binary encoding. Base64 only makes it safe to paste into text; decoding the DER underneath is what produces readable fields.
What is the difference between PEM and DER?
Same data, different container. DER is the raw binary; PEM is that binary base64-encoded with header and footer lines so it survives copy and paste.
