Why PNG rather than JPG?

PNG is lossless, so text edges, tables and line art stay sharp. JPG puts a halo around high contrast edges, which is most of what a document page contains.

Are the files bigger?

Yes, often several times. That is the trade for keeping edges clean. For photographic pages with no type, JPG is the better choice.

Does transparency come through?

Pages render onto a white background, matching how the document prints, rather than leaving the page background transparent.

Can I convert only one page?

Type that page number in the range box. Leaving it blank renders the whole document, which on a long PDF takes a while and uses a lot of memory.
