What is the difference between letterbox and crop?
Letterbox keeps the whole picture and pads the leftover space with white. Crop fills the frame edge to edge and discards whatever falls outside it.
Which ratio do I need for each platform?
16:9 for YouTube and desktop video, 1:1 for a feed post, 4:5 for the taller Instagram portrait slot, and 9:16 for stories and reels.
Does the image get resampled?
Only the parts that change. Letterbox adds pixels around the original; crop removes them. Neither rescales what is left, so sharpness is preserved.
Can I pad with a color other than white?
Not here, letterbox padding is white. If you need a different backdrop, use the matte generator, which takes a color and a border width.
